School Board names Lafourche's top students
THIBODAUX — Top students from around the parish were honored Wednesday before the Lafourche School Board meeting, including three chosen to advance to a Jan. 26 regional competition.
The Student of the Year awards are a state-sponsored program that aims to recognize the best students across Louisiana.
Based on grades, community service, written essays and face-to-face interviews, students can work their way from the parish through regionals to compete for top student in the state.
The competition has three tiers: elementary, middle and high school.
The board recognized 24 students from across the parish: 11 fifth-graders, 13 eighth-graders and three 12th-graders.
The three students selected as Lafourche's best were Matt Labat, Thibodaux High senior; Eris Stove, East Thibodaux Middle eighth-grader; and Christin Bland, Thibodaux Elementary fifth-grader.
