FAIRLAWN — St. Hilary School hosted its school geography bee Jan. 11.
After qualifying at the classroom level, 12 students competed in the bee, including: fifth-graders Ryan Donahue, Matthew Sporich and Michael Sporich; sixth-graders Kristopher Fiocca, John Scantling and Ben Stocker; seventh-graders John Paul Gromofsky, Kevin Kramer and Matt Reinke; and eighth-graders Joey Miller, Alex Miskell and Alex Strayer.
Seventh-grader Ryan Jun qualified as an alternate, and eighth-grader Alex Redle qualified but was absent from school the day of the contest.
Alex Miskell won the competition and will advance to the next level, which consists of taking a written test.
Depending on his score on the test, Alex may be among the top 100 scorers in Ohio to compete in the state geography bee in Columbus in March.
