Wellesley students graduate from schools, colleges
Several Wellesley residents graduated from Massachusetts Bay Community College May 24 during the 35th annual commencement exercises at the school's Wellesley Hills campus.
Recent graduates include: Jonathan James Spoerl, Carole Kramer Arsenault, Kimberlee Ann Dow, Patricia Sullivan Durickas, Chin-Jun Hsu, Doris Mercedes Jaimes, Maura Anne Lawler and Carol Ann MacPhee.
Also, Thomas J. McKee, Michael S. Medeiros, Jennifer Elizabeth Nilson, Isaura Vega, Julie Ester Weissman and Carrie E. Wollaston.
Christopher Powers, son of Dennis and Verity Powers of Wellesley, was awarded a bachelor of science degree with honors at Princeton University's 250th commencement, June 3. Powers, who majored in mechanical and aerospace engineering, will join Andersen Consulting in October.
While at Princeton, Powers served in various offices for the Sailing Team, including fleet captain. He was also membership chairman of Campus Club.
Powers was a 1993 graduate, cum laude, of Phillips Academy, Andover. While there he rowed varsity crew. He is also an Eagle Scout.
The F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College conferred master of business administration degrees on 301 graduates at its 45th commencement ceremony, May 17. Robert M. Rosenberg, president and CEO, Allied Domecq Retailing USA, was the speaker.
Noel P. Donnelly, the daughter of E. Thomas Donnelly and Jane (Morrissey) Hammond, earned a master of business administration degree.
Mark S. Brown, son of Dr. and Mrs. Stephen F. Brown, was awarded a bachelor of science degree in science and business from the University of Notre Dame, May 19. He will pursue dual degrees in law and master of business administration from Suffolk University in the fall.
The following Wellesley residents have been awarded a degree from Connecticut College at the 79th commencement ceremony, May 14.
Thomas Macy Damon was awarded a bachelor of arts degree. James Alan Gordon was awarded a bachelor of arts degree. Amy Elizabeth Perkins was awarded a bachelor of arts degree, magna cum laude.
Allison Leah Rourke was awarded a bachelor of arts degree, with honors. Amy Wechsler Sleeper was awarded a bachelor of arts degree, cum laude.
Angela Simone of Wellesley recently graduated from Stonehill College.
Stephen W. Gardiner from Wellesley received an outstanding thesis award from the sociology/anthropology department at Lewis & Clark College's recent honors convocation.
The outstanding thesis award is a departmental honor that recognizes both excellence in the final thesis project and a distinguished classroom presence. Gardiner's thesis was titled: "Authenticity and the American Middle Class: Representations of Authenticity in American Advertising."
Gardiner was one of the 415 students who graduated from Lewis & Clark College May 4. He received a bachelor of arts degree in sociology/anthropology.
Jessica Clayson of Wellesley received a bachelor's degree from Brandeis University in Waltham, at the school's 46th commencement exercises on May 25. Clayson is the daughter of Robert and Lois Clayson.
About 650 students received degrees with the Union College class of 1997, at commencement exercises recently. The college awarded 500 bachelor's degrees, 158 master's degrees and one doctorate.
Nicole Eden Rubin of Wellesley received a bachelor of arts in sociology, cum laude. She is a a 1993 graduate of Wellesley High School.
Beth Angela Plunkett, daughter of Tom and Mary Plunkett of Marshfield, formerly of Wellesley, has graduated with honors from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine with a doctorate of medicine.
Plunkett is beginning her residency program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. She has been elected to Beta of Illinois Chapter of Alpha Omega Alpha. Plunkett resides in Chicago with her husband, Eric Sussman.
Two Wellesley residents were among those to graduate from Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y., during the school's 57th commencement May 18.
George E. Benzie received a degree in history. Brian M. Denning received a degree in marketing/management.
Five Wellesley residents graduated from St. Sebastian's School recently, and will matriculate at the following colleges: John V. Curtin III (Bowdoin), Robert F. Flynn (William and Mary), John P. Keefe (Harvard), Gregory Kelley (University of Vermont) and Rory W. Rich (St. Joseph's University).
