Johnson County School Honors
Forty-six (46) of Johnson County’s 6th, 8th and 12th grade students will be honored for the excellence they have achieved in academics on May 13, 2002 at 7 p.m. in the Johnson County High School gymnasium. This is the 16th annual ceremony to recognize academic excellence in the school system.
Highlights of the evening will include:
Principals will present to each student a Presidential Academic Excellence pin and a certificate signed by the President of the United States, the Secretary of Education, and the school principal.
Director of Schools Minnie Miller will present an academic trophy provided by National Textiles to each student.
Excellence in the fine arts area will be highlighted.
The Positive Thinkers Club will host a reception to honor the students in the JCMS Commons Area following the ceremony.
In addition to parents and teachers, other invited guests for the evening will be School Board members, the County Executive, the Mayor, the Chair of the County Commission, our State Representative, our State Senator, a representative from the State Department of Education, the Manager of National Textiles (our industrial partner for this event), and the President of Positive Thinkers (our civic partner for this event).
Following are the criteria for the award and a list of this year’s recipients by school and grade.
Criteria 3.5-4.0 grade average No suspensions during the present school year Achievement test scores in the 85th percentile or higher in math or reading
