Wellington High School Report: Students Inducted Into National Honor Society

• On Wednesday, Nov. 15, the Wellington High School chapter of the National Honor Society held its annual induction ceremony to welcome new members. This year, over 100 seniors, juniors, and sophomores were inducted at a ceremony which took place in the Little Theater at Wellington High School.

During the ceremony, faculty sponsor Mrs. Rigolo and Principal Rod Montgomery, along with members of the student board, gave speeches. Afterward, the new inductees and their parents were provided with refreshments.

All of the students who were inducted met the rigid criteria of the National Honor Society — a 3.5 grade point average or a 3.65 honor point average (weighted GPA), at least 25 community service hours, no major disciplinary actions, two teacher recommendations, and the approval of the Wellington High School National Honor Society Faculty Council. Students are required to maintain their GPA at or above 3.5 (or 3.65 honor point average) as well as perform 15 hours of community service every nine weeks.

The National Honor Society is the largest high school community service organization. Started in 1921, the National Honor Society now has over one million members in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and other United States territories. The goal of the organization is to produce individuals who contain four essential traits: character, leadership, scholarship, and service.
