Old Trail POP teams take top honors
BATH — The seventh- and eighth-grade Power of the Pen teams from Old Trail School placed first and second, respectively, at the regional competition.
Together the teams also took home the Regional Sweepstakes trophy.
The tournament, which took place at Kent State University March 4, included 158 seventh- and eighth-grade participants from 29 schools in Summit and Portage counties.
Individual leaders for Old Trail were seventh-graders Katie Naymon, of Richfield, receiving seventh place, and Tessa DiTirro, of Fairlawn, finishing in 11th place.
Eighth-graders Annie Forhan and Karan Bains, both of Hudson, received first place and seventh place, respectively.
Annie won Best of Round One and Karan won Best of Round Two for the eighth-grade division.
Annie also won the Meghan Wagner Memorial Award.
Old Trail students receiving a bid to the state competition, which will take place at The College of Wooster May 25-26, are: Annie, Karan, Tessa, Katie and seventh-grader Zach Wendeln, of Aurora.
The teams are coached by language arts teachers Marilyn Wilson, of Bath, and Erik Korvne, of Akron.
