• AKRON — Eighteen Archbishop Hoban High School students in grades 10-12 competed in the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics (OCTM) State Mathematics Tournament 2006 at The University of Akron Feb. 25.
This year, there were 102 teams, with 1,601 students taking the test.
Hoban ranked fourth in Ohio for schools of similar size.
Hoban tied for 20th place (with Miami Valley and Copley) overall, with a team score of 102.
Hoban’s top four scorers were Peter Mushenheim, of Cuyahoga Falls, son of Mr. and Dr. Charles Mushenheim; Tom Metzger, of Akron, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Metzger; Dan Garbinsky, of Akron, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Garbinsky; and John Blischak, of Akron, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Blischak.
Mushenheim and Metzger are two of only 100 students statewide who will advance to the Ohio High School Mathematics Invitational Olympiad (OHMIO) at Capital University April 22.
