• GREATER AKRON — The Akron Jaycee Foundation recently honored high school seniors as Outstanding Young Citizens.
The students were chosen on the basis of academic achievements, community involvement, extracurricular activities, written and verbal communication skills and future potential.
After personal interviews of finalists, students were selected to receive scholarships.
The scholarship recipients are: Gabrielle Spiros, $2,000; Amy Farmer and Matthew Woods, $1,000 each; and Ziaojing Cheng, Carmella Renee Nicholson and Jillian Kathleen Walter, $500 each.
Other Outstanding Young Citizens recognized were: Heather Ann Datsko, Thuy-Diem T. Le, Sara Pirozzi, Asja Williams and Steven Yackey.
All of the scholarships may be used at any accredited college or university of the student’s choosing.
• AKRON — Archbishop Hoban High School has announced the Academic and Chivalrous Knights for the second quarter.
The Academic Knights include freshman Patrick Kramer, of Fairlawn; sophomore Jenna Furpahs, of West Akron; juniors Amy Solsman, of Copley, and Lauren Yanko, of West Akron; and seniors Peter Mushenheim of Cuyahoga Falls, and Erica Nunez, of Fairlawn.
The Chivalrous Knights include freshmen Tyler Just, of Cuyahoga Falls, and Meagan McMahon, of West Akron.
In addition, the Fine Arts Department had a number of award winners at the Scholastic Arts Competition at the Stark Campus of Kent State University.
Annie Ryland, of Copley, received a silver key for photography.
Ian Henschen, of Fairlawn, received a silver key for a collaborative digital print piece.
