• WEST AKRON — Fifteen Akron-area high school seniors were honored recently as Outstanding Young Citizens by the Akron Jaycees at their Distinguished Service Award Banquet.

Students were chosen on the basis of academic achievements, community involvement, extracurricular activities, written and verbal communication skills and future potential.

The top scholarship winner was Susan McMahon, of West Akron, a senior at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, who was the recipient of a $1,500 scholarship.

Other West Akron seniors selected include: Jared Cauffield, Jasmyn Robinson and Leo Walter IV, of Firestone High School, who each won a $500 scholarship; Kathryn Bell, of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, who received a $250 scholarship; and Tana Coudriet, of Archbishop Hoban High School, the recipient of a $150 scholarship.
