• COPLEY — Ryan Faulkner received a doctorate in clinical psychology from Wright State University after completing an internship at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Cincinnati. Faculty and students honored Faulkner with the Dean’s Award at the graduation ceremony. Faulkner is a graduate of Revere High School and The Ohio State University. He resides in Cincinnati with his wife and sons. His parents are Nancy and Rob Faulkner, of Copley.
• DOWNTOWN AKRON — Twenty-one cadets who will be the newest members of regional police departments were honored at a Sept. 16 graduation ceremony for The University of Akron (UA) Police Academy. In the West Side Leader coverage area, the graduating cadets of the academy, which is part of the Training Center for Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice in UA’s Summit College, include: William Arbaugh, Ronnie Drope, Brandon Good and Alphonzo Moore, of Akron; Bryan Jeffries, of Cuyahoga Falls; Christopher LaFond, of Medina; and Dustin Bounce, of Norton.
• GRANVILLE — Jennifer Siess, a 2004 graduate of Walsh Jesuit High School and a Denison University first-year student, is among those named as grant winners of Alumni Awards. This grant is awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding leadership both inside and outside the classroom. Siess is the daughter of Diane and Ned Siess, of Fairlawn.
• BEREA — Timothy Baxter was a participant in the Baldwin-Wallace College 2004 Summer Honors Institute, a collection of six programs covering an array of topics. Baxter, a student at Woodridge High School, participated in the Music Theater Camp, which is geared toward gifted students interested in developing their performance skills in all aspects of music theater. During the week, students attending this camp received lessons in voice, stage combat, repertoire coaching, acting, improvisation and dance and movement.
• WEST AKRON — Patrick Wernig, a senior at Walsh Jesuit High School, was recently honored at the 2004 NASA Student and Mentor Recognition Ceremony in Cleveland. Wernig and a fellow intern were awarded the inaugural NASA Glenn Research Center Team Award for their outstanding cooperative leadership. Wernig has interned for the past two summers in the NASA PLUS Program, which concentrates on the business aspects of NASA, with emphasis on providing professional administrative opportunities to selected students. Wernig is the son of Colleen and Mark Wernig, of West Akron.
• RICHFIELD — Zachariah Szabo, of Richfield and a ninth-grader at Golden Sparrow Academy, earned three state-level ribbons at the Ohio State Fair this August for his knowledge in an interview situation and for a completed project. He excelled in furniture restoration, in “You’re an Athlete” and in photography, where his entry not only received first place but also was selected to be hung in the 4-H offices in Washington, D.C., displayed at the 2005 Ohio State Fair and featured in one of the 4-H national calendars. Szabo is the president of Night Hawks 4-H and was the 2003-04 Prince of the Summit County Fair. He also is the founding director of Northeast Ohio’s “ooEeee” Teen Talent Troupe.
