17 seniors awarded scholarships

Seventeen Bakersfield High School seniors were awarded scholarships upon graduation this month (June 2017).

A+ Scholarships awarded, of which there are 16, could amount to as much as $160,000, depending on where the students choose to attend. More than two dozen other scholarships awarded total $172,150.

In addition, school officials recognized Jeramy Rhoads who has enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was awarded a U.S. Air Force GI Bill amount of $129,500. Rhoads left Monday to begin his training.

Students awarded A+ Scholarships: Matthew Bean, Morgan Bledsoe, Clora Bonham, Abigail Colbert, Ian Davis, Krystal Foster, Rachel Foster, Zoey Guffey, Micky Hall, Harley King, Claire Lester, Jacelyn McCormack, Austin Parker, Maddie Simpson, Emily Summers and Ethan Tucker.

Maddie Simpson, Rob Laxton $500 Memorial Scholarship, Cory Parrish $750 Memorial Scholarship, Brenda Owen Riley $1,000 Education Scholarship, Howell-Oregon Electric $750 Scholarship, North Arkansas College Residential Tuition $5,880 Scholarship and Class of 1962 $500 Scholarship.

Andrew Lau, National Horse Shoe Pitching Association $140 Scholarship and South Central Career Center (SCCC) Door to the Future $500 Scholarship; Zoey Guffey, Bakersfield FFA Alumni $500 Scholarship, Ozark County Farm Bureau $500 Scholarship and American Red Cross $250 Scholarship, and Ian Davis, Mudslingers $500 Scholarship.

Harley King, Mudslingers $500 Scholarship and Baxter Regional Medical Center CNA $1,000 Scholarship; Rachel Foster, Bakersfield Booster Club $500 Scholarship and SCCC Door to the Future $1,000 Scholarship; and Abigail Colbert, Bakersfield Honor Society $500 Scholarship.

Ethan Tucker, Missouri State University Promise $500 Scholarship and Missouri University of Science and Technology $2,500 Bright Flight Scholarship, $2,000 Missouri Miner Scholarship and $2,000 University Scholarship.

Emily Summers, MFA Foundation $2,000 Scholarship and North Arkansas College Residential Tuition $5,880 Scholarship; Morgan Bledsoe, SCCC Door to the Future $500 Scholarship; and Colter Johnson, SCCC Door to the Future $500 Scholarship.
