Mark Twain Junior High lists students of the month
CENTER - Deanette Jarman, principal at Mark Twain Junior High in Center, has announced the first semester "Student of the Month" recipients.
Each month, students are nominated by faculty, staff and fellow students for this award. A seventh- and eighth-grader is then selected from the nominees to receive this honor. The following is a recap of the winners for the first semester.
* Jacob Bogue was selected as the seventh-grade student of the month recipient for September. Jacob is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Bogue of New London. He is an honor student and enjoys spending time with family and watching and playing football.
* Megan Duckworth was selected as the September eighth-grade student of the month. Megan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Duckworth of Center. She is an honor student and member of the band, French Club, Just Say No Club, 100% Club, basketball and track teams, and member of Salem Baptist Church. Megan was nominated because she "serves as an excellent role model to students."
* Sherrick Reynolds was selected as the seventh-grade student of the month for October. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Reynolds of Center. He enjoys sports, playing Nintendo and playing for the summer league baseball team. Sherrick was nominated because he is "positive, cheerful and encouraging" and is always "polite and respectful."
* The October eighth-grade student of the month was Annabelle Bogue. Annabelle is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Bogue of New London. She is an honor student and enjoys listening to music, spending time with family and friends, and supporting the Mark Twain Tigers. Annabelle was nominated because she excels academically, is helpful go other students, and goes "above and beyond" what is expected of her.
* November's seventh-grade student of the month was Sarah Gordon. Sarah is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Harrison of New London and Mr. Scott Gordon of Cameron. Sarah is an honor student, member of the Just Say No club and basketball team, and a Girl Scout. Sarah was nominated because she works hard and is "an honest and caring individual who brings a positive attitude to class."
* Wesley Mahsman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Mahsman of New London, was selected as the eighth-grade November student of the month. He is an honor student, plays on the basketball team, and is active in the juvenile summer baseball league. He also participates in 4-H and is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Wesley was nominated because he "cares about people and gets good grades. He sets a good example for others."
* December's seventh-grade recipient was Brandon Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Anderson of New London. Brandon is an honor student and is a member of the football squad. He plays summer league baseball and enjoys playing volleyball. Brandon was nominated because of his "I'm going to keep doing better" attitude and because of the extra effort he puts into his science class.
* Lona Lamberson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Brown of Perry and the late Lonnie Lamberson, was chosen as the December eighth-grade student of the month.
She is an honor student and member of the French Club and 100% Club. Lona was nominated for the award because she, "is always a concerned student. She always wears a smile and is polite and friendly."
She was the only algebra student to make a perfect score on an algebra test during the first semester.
