Farmington High School announces its Top 10 students for the Class of 2001. They are listed in order of class rank.
Yvette Leeman of Middleton is the daughter of Janice d’Entremont and Don Leeman. She played volleyball all four years of high school and made the NHIAA senior all-star team. She also participated in drama and chorus. In the fall, she will go to Emmanuel College in Boston on a full-tuition scholarship, where she will be majoring in chemistry with a minor in performing arts. She will also play volleyball. After obtaining her bachelor’s degree, she plans to either go to medical school or get a master’s degree in chemistry. Her plans for the future are to get involved in pharmaceutical research and to pursue acting as a hobby.
Krystal Muise, daughter of Ronald and Gertrude Muise, has maintained honor roll throughout her four years of high school. She has been a member of the National Honor Society since her sophomore year. She has been involved in the math team and drama club. She is a member of a pre-professional ballet company. Krystal has been accepted to the University of Rhode Island, where she will major in medical engineering and German.
Virginia Ann Bowden is the daughter of Karen G. Rhines of Farmington and Robert L. Siefke of Wittier, Calif. She was a member of the debate club for three years as president, the band as a soloist, the National Honor Society, yearbook and Future Business Leaders of America. She has been involved in the community, volunteering at Red Cross blood drives, running cards for shut-ins project, taught Sunday school at the First Congregational Church of Farmington and read "Flander’s Fields" at Memorial Day exercises in town. In her freshman year, Virginia had two poems published in anthologies. The summer of her sophomore year she started working a part-time job. In her junior year, she was the recipient of the Band Award, the Semper Fidelis Award and the Wellesley College Book Award. In the fall, Virginia will be going to Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pa., where she was accepted with honors and $14,400 in merit scholarships, and plans on majoring in education and English.
Nicole Huckins is the daughter of Thomas and Michelle Huckins. She has been a high honor/honor student in the college preparatory program for four years. Nicole also participated in many extracurricular activities. She was inducted into the National Honor Society her junior year and has been an active member of student council. Other activities include volleyball, cheerleading, Project Alternative, peer mediation, Spanish club and travel club. As a junior, Nicole was one of 200 students selected from 35 different countries to participate in the National Student Leadership Conference on Medicine and Health Care in Washington, D.C. In the fall, Nicole will be attending the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine, where she hopes to earn a master’s degree in occupational therapy.
Aglaia Tsiros is the daughter of Chris and Savoula Tsiros of Farmington. She has been active in many extracurricular activities, including winter carnival and Project Alternative for all four years, Odyssey of the Mind, travel club for three years, drama club, Project Search for two years, debate club and was inducted into the National Honor Society her senior year. She was also president of the Spanish club for two years, class treasurer her sophomore and junior years, class vice president her senior year and vice president of the National Honor Society her senior year. Aglaia was also a member of the Farmington cross-country team for three years and nominated for "Who’s Who Among America’s High School Students" her junior year. Aglaia will attend Syracuse University, where she plans to further her education in the arts.
Alyson Marie Huppe is the daughter of Timothy and Wendy Huppe. Alyson has maintained honors for all four years. She has been a member of the student council, the drama club and several committees. Alyson has also been an active member of the 4-H for the past six years. She is president of two 4-H clubs, a member of the 2000 and 2001 4-H State Teen Council, the 4-H Working Steer Curriculum Committee, the Strafford County 4-H Advisory Council and has represented New Hampshire with her working steers at the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield, Mass., for three years. Alyson will attend the Thompson School of Applied Science at the University of New Hampshire, where she will be studying animal science and dairy management. While there, she will live and work at the UNH Dairy Barn.
Joshua Alan Olstad is the son of Miles and Sheryl Olstad. He has been enrolled in the college preparatory program at the high school for four years. During high school, he received academic awards, participated in basketball, attended Boy’s State and was the recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award. He was accepted into the National Honor Society his sophomore year. He has also been actively involved in student council. Joshua has been accepted to Daniel Webster College in Nashua, where he was awarded a Presidential Scholarship. He will major in computer information systems.
Jennifer Kuehl, daughter of Sheila and Christopher Kuehl of Middleton, has been an athlete all four years of high school. She represented the Farmington Tigers as varsity captain in volleyball, basketball and softball. Jen was selected to represent Farmington at Athletic Leadership Conference her sophomore and junior years. Jennifer took all honors courses throughout her four years of high school. She was inducted into the National Honor Society her junior year and was named an All-American Scholar. Jen participated in Spring Fling, Spanish club, yearbook, prom committee and Project Alternative. She has been an active member of Winter Carnival all four years (carnival queen 2001). Jennifer has been active in community service. She has been an altar server at St. Anthony’s in Sanbornville for 11 years, coached Pee Wee girls basketball for six years, assisted in vacation Bible school as an aide, is currently an elementary school Seacoast Reads tutor and participated in town and park cleanups/repairs, food drives and blood drives. She was acknowledged as a Channel 9 News "Hometown Hero." Jen has been employed full time during the summers since her freshman year as a camp counselor for the Farmington Recreation Department. Jennifer will be attending Western New England College (Honors Program) in Springfield, Mass., and will continue to play sports. Jen plans to become and Elementary Teacher, counsel teens and coach.
Patricia Baxter is the daughter of Linda and William Baxter of Farmington. She has been on the honor roll all four years of her high school career. She has participated in debate club since her sophomore year; Upward Bound since her freshman year; math team since her freshman year; drama club freshman, sophomore and senior years; and Project Search her junior year. Her favorite activities are painting, drawing, writing, poetry and working with animals. She received the Perfect Attendance award and the Strider Award. Patty will attend Warren Wilson College in Asheville, N.C. She plans to major in biology or chemistry. She plans on becoming a veterinarian.
Megan Riley is the daughter of Jim and Lisa Riley. Megan has been an honor student in the college preparatory program for four years. As a sophomore, she was elected to the National Honor Society and served as secretary her senior year. Throughout high school, Megan has participated in many activities, including cheerleading, softball and American Legion Granite Girls State 2000. In the fall, Megan will attend the University of Connecticut, where she will major in political science and pre-law.
