McEowen students honored at awards ceremony
McEowen Elementary School students were honored for their academic achievement at an end-of-the year ceremony May 21.
The 10tth annual Accent on Achievement Program included recognition of principal’s honor roll, Presidential Scholars, as well as students honored for citizenship and reading achievement.
The event began with three speakers providing their “Perspective on Excellence.” The speakers included fifth-grade student Mackenzie Eisel, parent Gary Davidson, and fifth-grade teacher Kelly Wernex.
Students who earn straight A’s are named to the principal’s honor Roll. Seventeen third-grade students were honored for being on the principal’s honor roll the entire school year. They were Nicholas Blalock, Sydni Dilbeck, Ian Eddleman, Katy Eddleman, Blake Estep, Becky Freeman, Henry Frees, Sarah Geier, Reagan Holden, Alex Johnson, Hunter Leipham, Tanner Murray, Mikayla Olender, Madison Parker, Brooke Rogers, Lance Starforth and Ben Styron.
Forty fourth-graders were recognized for maintaining As all year. They were Hannah Bennett, Sabrina Bollinger, Jordan Bostic, Sierra Brewer, Sarah Cass, Douglas Croy, Austen Cummins, Madison Dahn, Nate Dick, Coressa Ervin, Jacot Erwin, Hagen Finner, Dalton Forester, Hannah Gibler, Landon Hern, Alex Holden, Madison Kittilstad, John Kusmec, Aaron Laughlin, Austin Moreland, Blake Moreland, Jacob Murray, Austin Murray, Jordan Ours, Jessica Poisal, Trish Price, Gavin Robertson, Allison Saffell, Mikayla Sanders, Alison Schmidt, Baileigh Selemaea, Ben Spencer, Cristia Stein, Bethany Travis, Ashley Underwood, Lani Van Zyl, Melissa Watson, Cole Welhoff, Kai Wesemann, and Mark Williams.
Fifth-graders earning this recognition included Clayton Dover, Rayanne Holman, Andrew Johnson, Melissa Larcom, Christen Leipham, Anne Mulvey, Carter Neill, Jessica Nichols, Trevor Ratcliff, Kaylee Ritter, Hailey Roberson, Sabrina Tinsley.
Fifth-graders who earned A’s throughout both their fourth-and fifth-grade year were named Presidential Scholars. Those students were Darin Bachman, Samantha Bowers, Brandon Brewster, Dakota Bricker, Taylor Chancellor, Luke Cooper, Matthew Cox, Zach Davidson, Abe Dick, Mackenzie Eisel, Kaitlin Fifer, Bayli Galeassi, Samantha Geier, Kyle Hix, Luke Holden, Kayla Johnson, Brianna Kendrick, Brock Kliewer, Jack McCleave, Brance Neal, Evan Robertson, Patrese Shanks, Olivia Styron, Elizabeth Tryon-Ebert, Hannah Welhoff and Dylan Young.
McEowen library media specialist Tonya Ours presented awards to almost 110 students for meeting their Accelerated Reader goals for the year.
Ours also recognized third graders for reading all KC-3 nominated books. The KC-3 nominees are chosen each year by the Kansas City Metropolitan Librarians. Approximately 10 transitional chapter books make the list. Those McEowen third-graders honored were Reagan Holden, Lance Starforth, Brock Kanies, Michaela Hill, Madison Parker, Henry Frees, Brooke Rogers, Olivia Ratcliff, Ben Styron, Jake Gunnels, Nicholas Blalock, Quinton Cooper, Jacob Woolery, Hunter Finner, Caitlyn Ervin, Dylan Long, Tanner Murray, Hunter Leipham, Ian Eddleman, Sarah Geier, Sydni Dilbeck, Becky Freeman, Sierra Cauthon, Mikayla Olender, Katie Riffle, Katy Eddleman and Alex Johnson.
Thirty-five fifth-graders completed all 20 books on the Mark Twain Readers list and were recognized for that accomplishment. They were Gavin Robertson, Andrew Johnson, Kyle Hix, Jordan Bostic, Brance Neal, Taelor Zielinski, Evan Robertson, Claire Keil, Ashley Underwood, Melissa Watson, Douglas Croy, Luke Holden, Aaron Laughlin, Annie Mulvey, Dylan Hawkins, Olivia Styron, Trish Price, Jessica Strodtman, Darin Bachman, Austin Murray, Cole Welhoff, Ben Spencer, Cyrus Truninger, Hannah Welhoff, Jessica Nichols, Mackenzie Eisel, Jessica Poisal, Samantha Bowers, Brianna Kendrick, Ally Saffell, Alex Holden, Bayli Galeassi, Jordan Ours, Jacob Murray, and Sam Riffle.
The final awards of the night were presented by McEowen principal Dan Erholtz. Erholtz recognized one student from each class at McEowen with the Citizenship Award. Those honored included Alexandra Bixler, Kayley Brock, Zach Cooper, Danielle Dalton, Sydni Dilbeck, Kaitlyn Garrett, Lee Hawkins, Kaitlyn Knoche, Victoria Liera, Austin Murray, Brooklyn Olender, Maddie Ponder, Olivia Ratcliff, Gavin Robertson, Olivia Styron, Kristi VanBlack, Dustin Wallen, Taylor Williams, Hunter Wilson and Brandon Woolery.
