R-9 Middle School students honored at annual ceremony
Harrisonville Middle School honored student achievement at its second annual awards ceremony at the end of the school year.
Students in grades six, seven and eight were honored for academic achievement including honor roll and principal’s honor roll.
More than 90 students were recognized for being on the principal’s honor roll all four quarters of the 2006-07 school year.
The top accelerated reader for each grade level was recognized. Those students included sixth-grader Audrey Marshall, seventh-grader Lizzie Laurent and eighth-grader Kayla Kendrick.
Departmental awards were handed also handed out at the ceremony.
In the area of family and consumer science, the following students were recognized: Stephen Barnes, Alex Bristow, Ashley Byrd, Anisa Alexander, Alex Houdek, Carol Kilbane, Tanner Foerschler, Catrina Springer, Caleb Coltrin, Libby Semler, Sarah Keck, Elizabeth Cooper, Logan Vassholz, Emily Tracy, Taylor Croy, Brandon Estep, Cory Kuykendall, Candon McCubbin, Stephanee Davidson, Tory Bostic, Shelby Lavery, Shea Kalwei, Shyanne Barton, Spencer Morse, Kortney McKinnis, Brandon Herrell and Molly Williams.
Business Technology honored students included sixth-graders Elizabeth Semler and Drew Williams, seventh-graders McKenzie Taylor and Brandon Perriman, and eighth-graders Amy Burr and Jason Blakey.
Kyle Jaynes, Mitchell Morse, Sadie Welhoff, Clint Harkrader, Heather Ferretti, Kayla Kendrick. Tanner Sutton and Zach Wright were presented awards for Spanish.
Those students earning Presidential Physical Fitness Awards for meeting the physical fitness standards for push-ups, the mile run, the shuttle run, and crunches during testing included Kayla Davis, Kayla Kendrick, Kyle Livingston, Jaclyn Sumner, Landon Teal, Kayla Dutton, Tanner Sutton, Thomas Schlechter, Alex Herndon, Kelsey Sumner and Meckenzie Taylor.
Sportsmanship Awards went to Elizabeth Cooper, Livia Dunham, Shelby Lavery, Sara Clarke, Amanda Knowles, Sierrah Stephens, Holly Jo Wright, Feryn Jones, Libby Semler, Kindred Wesemann, Max Galeassi, Dillon Kliewer, Alex Herndon, Tyler Hilt, Dakota Carl, Cal Neill, Mitchell Morse, Jason Blakey, Angel Bomer, Maryna Wooten, Dallas Hilt, Bailey Sandy and Sarah Keck.
Health Awards winner were Tyler Hilt, Karenna Sanchez, John Gillotte, Alyssa Strong, Matthew Baer, and McKinnon Blalock. These winners were chosen based on academic performance, classroom participation, and cooperation with classmates while working on projects.
The Outstanding Science Student Award is given to those students who maintained an A average in science class all four quarters. Clint Harkrader and Lora McCoy were honored for this accomplishment.
The Future Scientist Award is given to students with an intense curiosity for scientific matters shown through class participation and excellent class work. Those honorees were Rebecca Baltzell and Abraham Erwin.
Each quarter the school honors the Students of the Quarter. The fourth quarter honorees were recognized at the awards ceremony and included Alexis Eghbali, Madison Kusmec, Derrick Jeppesen, Kaley Harkrader, Laura McCoy, Dillon Bales, Tyler Short, Landon Mickelberry, Phillip Freeman, David Roth, Sydney Kroenke and Victoria Reeves.
Service Learning students work on various projects and events which help them learn the value of community service. These students include Stephen Barnes, Alex Bristow, Wes Brown, Ashley Byrd, Jessica Clemons, Jackie Canaday, Jesse Coburn, Ben Volsky, Danielle Ward, Sadie Welhoff and Jaquilyn Yoder.
The HMS Awards Ceremony was held May 22 in the HHS Performing Arts Center.
