Cass Career Center students honored
Cass Career Center students received numerous honors at the annual awards night ceremony held May 8. Approximately 350 people attended the event with students from the 10 sending schools receiving awards.
Harrisonville senior Craig Nelson was named the All School Outstanding Graduate. Nelson is a student in the Marketing program at Cass Career Center. His name will go on a plaque which hangs in the main hall at Cass Career Center. He also received an individual plaque, a $200 cash award from Pat Mathews in memory of her husband, Joel, and the CCC Achievement Scholarship, which is given and directed by an anonymous donor for an amount of $2,050 to be used for tuition, fees and books.
Other nominees for the award included Harrisonville senior Jaclyn Birchmeier, Ray-Pec senior Daniel Borgman, Archie senior Kevin Huff, Harrisonville senior Sami Goins, Adrian senior Stevie Kuhn, Ray-Pec senior Alexa Rooney, and Harrisonville senior David Warren. The three runners-up included Birchmeier, Huff and Rooney, who each received a $150 scholarship to be used for continuing education or tools and clothing for employment.
Several scholarships were presented during the awards ceremony. Recipients included Adrian senior Stevie Kuhn, Metropolitan Superintendent Leadership Grant, Harrisonville Rotary Club scholarship and Cass County Lady Elks scholarship; Harrisonville senior Jaclyn Birchmeier, Business and Professional Women’s scholarship and Troutt, Beeman & Co., PC award; Harrisonville senior Kyle Gilbert, American Postal Worker’s Union scholarship; Ray-Pec senior Alexa Rooney, Jerry Tabb Memorial Scholarship and Harrisonville Rotary Club scholarship; Harrisonville senior Mia Steinmetz, Harrisonville Rotary Club scholarship; Archie senior Robert Harris and Drexel senior Scott Sanstra, Lincoln Technical College scholarships.
One student from each of the sending schools was honored as Outstanding Sending School Senior. The recipients of this award were Adrian senior Stevie Kuhn, Health Sciences, Archie senior Keith Cannon, Automotive Technology; Belton senior Mike Whittlesey, Information Systems Technology; Drexel senior Eric Shipley, CAD; Harrisonville senior Craig Nelson, Marketing; Lone Jack senior Holly Murkin, Health Sciences; Midway senior Heather Marr, Health Sciences; Pleasant Hill senior Kristina Dempsey, Health Sciences; and Ray-Pec senior Sia Kellie Snyder, Allied Health.
Cass Career Center honored three community members for their volunteer service throughout the year. Those recognized Weston Coble, an architect with Elswood, Smith and Carlson Architects in Overland Park, Kan., who spent a day working with CAD students and Pat and Tammy Powers, who have been supporters of the agriculture program and the FFA organization.
Each program at Cass Career Center recognized an outstanding junior and senior. The honored students were Harrisonville junior Michael Hargis and Harrisonville senior Jay Bennett, Agriculture; Pleasant Hill junior Christina Rojas and Harrisonville senior Samantha Goins, Allied Health; Ray-Pec junior Justin Mills and Ray-Pec senior Daniel Borgman, Automotive Technology; Pleasant Hill junior Jeremiah Long and Ray-Pec senior Alexa Rooney, Building Trades; Harrisonville junior Leanna Price and Harrisonville senior Jaclyn Birchmeier, Business Technology; Ray-Pec junior Aaron Stillwell and Ray-Pec senior Chad Dixon, CAD; Harrisonville senior Dale Gibson, Cooperative Internship Education; Belton junior David Bays and Harrisonville senior Michael Catron, Fire Science/EMT; Belton junior Amie Winsler and Ray-Pec senior Eric Wade, Health Sciences; Harrisonville junior Jerry Duthler and Harrisonville senior Kyle Spencer, Information Systems Technology; Midway junior Alex Siegenthaler and Harrisonville senior Anna Cole, Marketing; and Ray-Pec junior Nick Pence and Archie senior Travis Guthries, Welding.
Other awards handed out at the ceremony included Program Performance and Attendance.
Instructors also presented graduating seniors with their portfolios. Students’ portfolios included resumes, reference lists, sample applications, letters from CCC Director Jim Spencer and the student’s instructor and certificates of program completion.
Forty students earned a Gold Level of Achievement for their portfolio. To achieve this status, students must maintain a grade of at least 90 percent or higher through third quarter, complete four semesters at CCC, have a 95 percent attendance rate and have no suspensions their senior year. Those earning the Gold Level of Achievement were Alisha Aksamit, Jay Bennett, Jaclyn Birchmeier, Daniel Borgman, Kimberly Brown, Keith Cannon, Anna Cole, Jacob Crumply, Kristina Dempsey, Jacob DePeralta, Chad Dixon, Amy Douchette, Billie Duckworth, Dale Gibson, Kyle Gilbert, Samantha Goins, Travis Guthrie, Jessica Hamilton, Robert Harris, Jamie Hastings, Mary Hawkins, Ashley Hiatt, Scott Kalwei, Lindsay Larkworthy, Ryan McGee, Zach Moreno, Holly Murkin, Matt Nation, Craig Nelson, Marcia Pritchett, Alexa Rooney, Scott Sanstra, Nicholas Schlecter, Eric Shipley, Sia Kellie Snyder, Vanessa Strown, Misti VanBlack, Eric Wade, David Warren and Benjamin Yoder.
