Music Makers bring home grand champion trophy
The Harrisonville High School Music Makers wrapped up the show choir competition season by winning the Grand Championship trophy Feb. 19 at the Nevada Show Choir Fest. They competed against 20 other show choirs from Missouri and Kansas.
In addition to being named Grand Champion of the event, the HHS Music Makers won the outstanding costume and outstanding choreography competitions, as well as first place in the 4A division.
The Music Makers were one of five show choirs chosen to advance to the finals at the competition. They then won the grand championship, which placed them first over all choirs from the all five-class categories at the competition.
The Music Makers group is composed of 36 HHS sophomores, juniors and seniors. Members include Claire Baggenstoss, Stephen Black, Katie Boyd, Elise Chase, Justin Cooper, Rachel Cowan, Jeff Croft, Aaron Crust, Jennifer Dabbs, Ginney Davis, Kody Deardorff, Sean Edmiston, Jody Glazner, Ashleigh Guthrie, Nathan Hartzler, Stephanie Hartzler, Jessica Hintz, Rachel Houdek, Chris Hoven, Alex Hunter, Zach Kendall, Audrey Kiefer, David Lincoln, Jacob Lumpkin, Chad McCubbin, Justin Mickelberry, Anastasia Obermiller, Miriam Parman, Shelbi Pulliam, Michael Reece, Rachael Schrock, Kevin Sparks, Deanna Talley, Jacob Tracy, Amanda Webster and Brandan West.
The group is supported by a three-member crew of managers including Samantha Mclear, Jacob Fordyce and Alison Mollenhour, as well as numerous parents and the Blue Note Boosters.
The Music Makers are directed by Kip Mathew, accompanied by Kathy Eckert, choreographed by Christi Reeder and costumed by Gwen Fulton. In addition, HHS alumni A.J. Cronk and Davy Davis continue to support the Music Makers by playing in the band.
The group competed at five competitions beginning in November. Most recently, the group brought home ninth place from a show choir competition Feb. 11-13 in Troy.
This year’s Music Maker’s show is called “Music Makers go to Work” and features songs such as “Workin’ for a Livin’,” “Hard Days Night,” “Carwash” and “Workin’ for the Weekend.”
The group’s next performance will be at 11:45 a.m. March 5 at the Harrisonville Area Chamber of Commerce Business Expo at Mill-Walk Mall in Harrisonville.
