Clark, Watts receive Alpha Phi scholarships
Two former Blue Springs students were recently awarded scholarships from the Alpha Phi Foundation.
Nicole Clark, a junior biochemistry major at the University of Missouri at Columbia, was awarded an Alpha Phi Scholarship for the 1998-99 school year.
Kelli Ann Watts, a senior nursing major at MU, was awarded the Ruth Boutwell Scholarship.
Terrell awarded $6,000 provost`s scholarship
Blue Springs resident Jennifer Camille Terrell earned a scholarship from Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
She received a provost`s scholarship for $6,000 over four years and an achievement scholarship for $4,000 for four years.
Blue Springs graduate named to dean`s list
Lindsey Quinn, the daughter of Jill Quinn of Independence, was recently named to the dean`s list at Smith College in Northampton, Mass.
Quinn graduated from Blue Springs High School and is majoring in anthropology. She plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania this fall.
Area residents named to CMSU honor rolls
Several area residents were named to the honor rolls at Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg.
Those who earned a 4.0 grade point average are:Blue Springs -- Jeremy Baker, Paula Schlepphorst, Angie Arrowsmith, James Braden, Karen M. Aquilera Free, Jeffery Kramer, Kevin Morris, Jennifer Petelin, Robin Piercy, Julie Skinner, Melissa Sterling and Janquil Straka.
Grain Valley -- Teresa Barnett and Michael Todd.
Lee`s Summit -- Jennifer Balke, Shelly Caudle, Marle Hastings, Kay Johnson, Jill Leech, Marjorie Macias, Kendra Parker, and Rebekah Leah Ruterford.
Oak Grove -- Brett Brocato, Anne Connole, Karen Humphrey, Kristen Moody and Matt Osborn.
Those who earned a 3.5 to 3.9 grade point average are:Blue Springs -- Marcia Barker, Stacy Bonine, Bryony Carson, Trisha Carver, Jennifer Grosse, Sandra Rice, Robert Vazquez.
Lee`s Summit -- Stacy Canfield and Mitchell Pycior.
Oak Grove -- Christina Blanton.
Culbertson named dean`s scholar
Scott Culbertson was named a dean`s scholar at Texas Christian University at Fort Worth, Texas, in recognition of academic achievement.
He also received the Robert C. Byrd Scholarship. He begins college this fall.
Blue Springs students go to leadership camp
Four Blue Springs students attended a leadership camp at William Woods University.
Brittany Boswell and Kaylee Randall attend Moreland Ridge, and Ashlee Kellner and Taylor McKinney attend Hall-McCarter.
The camp was sponsored by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals. The objectives of the camp were to teach students leadership styles and strengths, understand peer pressure and how to deal with group dynamics, conflict resolution and ways to reduce conflicts and ways to appreciate diversity.
The students were selected for the camp by their principals. Nancy Stonner is principal at Moreland Ridge and Martha Cockerall is principal at Hall-McCarter.
