Graduation 1996 Awards and Honors

Sharpsville Area High School named its valedictorian, salutatorian and honors graduates at an assembly Wednesday, June 5.
Carrie Webb, daughter of William and Fran Webb, of 3451 Hummingbird Lane, South Pymatuning Township, was named valedictorian. Matthew Abbott, son of Fred and Joan Abbott, 3038 Maplewood Drive, South Pymatuning Township will be the salutatorian at the graduation ceremony Thursday.
Margo Emery and Ryan Reed were also chosen by their classmates to speak at commencement.
Honors graduates include: Matthew Abbott, Matthew Achenbach, Monica Doddato, Margo Emery, Daniel Esmond, Adam Garon, Joyce LaVan, Jennifer Lewis and Michael Moderelli.
Also, Megan Murray, Kimberly Novak, Christina Pedas, Alyssa Peruzzi, Justin Ray, Ryan Reed, Thomas Roskos and Carrie Webb.
Teacher Karen Davis was recognized with a plaque as the Teacher of the Year. The physics and advanced math teacher was chosen by Sharpsville's National Honor Society.
Seniors receiving scholarships and awards were also recognized at the assembly. The winners include:
Matthew Abbott: Distinguished Athlete Award, Good Citizen Award, Herald Honor Roll, Navy Honors Award, Principals' Leadership, $200 Student Council Scholarship, Tandy Technology Award, $100 Tom Burns Academic All-Star Award, $50 Elks Salutatorian Scholarship and $750 Sharpsville Area Education Association Scholarship.
Julie Andes: $500 Penn State Cosmetology Scholarship, Hermitage.
Amy DelFratte: $25 Win Scholarship runner-up.
Monica Doddato: $25 second-place American Legion Essay, $1,000 Big 33 Scholarship, fourth-place Eco-meet competition, Navy Honors Award, $34,800 Salem-Teikyo University, Salem, W.Va., Scholarship, $12,000 Teikyo Foundation Scholarship and $25 Win runner-up.
Margo Emery: Navy Scholarship, Patrick Gilmore Band Award, $1,000 Paul Daffin Community Award and $500 Service Club Scholarship.
Daniel Esmond: $50 Kiwanianne Club Award, $6,000 Academic Scholarship for Robert Morris College, Pittsburgh, $200 Student Council Scholarship and $500 Wolves Club Scholarship.
Adam Garon: $2,000 Kenneth Burton Roberts Scholarship, $40,000 Dean's Scholarship Ohio Northern University, Ada, Ohio, $100 Performing Arts Award, Semper Fidelis Band Award, Sousa Band Award and Tandy Technology Award.
Joyce LaVan: Army Scholar-Athlete Award, Navy Honors Award, $100 Tom Burns Academic All-Star Award and $12,000 Dean's Scholarship Wilson College, Chambersburg, Pa.
Jennifer Lewis: $100 Clarion Phillips Scholarship.
Melissa McIntosh: $2,500 Joe Walders Memorial Scholarship and $50 Voice of Democracy.
Michael Moderelli: $500 Wolves Club Scholarship.
Megan Murray: $100 Clarion Phillips Scholarship.

Justin Ray: $16,000 Griffiths Scholarship, Band Boosters Award, four scholarships totaling $36,000 from Baldwin-Wallace College, Berea, Ohio, $100 Cherilyn Kaibas Memorial Scholarship, National School Choral Award, Navy Honors Award, $300 Sharon Music Club Scholarship and Woody Herman Band Award.
Ryan Reed: $20 American Legion Auxiliary Essay Winner, $100 American Legion Essay Winner, $100 Devine School and Community Award, Navy Honors Award and $100 second-place Voice of Democracy.
Carrie Webb: $200 College Women's Scholarship, Navy Honors Award, Scholastic Excellence Award, $200 Student Council Scholarship, Tandy Technology Award, $24,000 Valedictorian Scholarship, $50 Elk's Valedictorian Scholarship and $750 Sharpsville Area Education Association Scholarship.
