Top Ten BCHS Seniors Named
The top ten students of the 2002 Braxton County High School graduating class have been identified. The class of one hundred and fifty students will be honored with commencement ceremony this Friday at the BCHS Athletic Field beginning at 8:00 p.m.
Seven seniors will share the honor of valedictorian. Leading that alphabetic list is Christopher E. Bailes, the son of Mac and Barbara Bailes of Sutton. At BCHS Christopher has been active in speech and the Academic Bowl. He plans to attend West Virginia Wesleyan as a pre-med student.
Richard Eric Campbell is the son of Rick and Susie Campbell of Duck. Eric served as student body president, editor of the Green and Gold Banner, a member of Student Council, HSTA and the National Honor Society. He plans to attend WVU to pursue a career in pharmacy.
Bethany Cook is the daughter of Brace and Jo Ann Cook of Gassaway. Her extra curricular activities include ten years of studying piano, a member of the BCHS Chorus, National Honor Society, All-State Chorus, participant in the Envirothon, as well as an active member of her church youth group and choir. Bethany plans to major in pharmacy at the University of Pittsburgh.
Erin Duckworth is the daughter of Rick and Joyce Duckworth of Frametown. At BCHS Erin has served as National Honor Society president, been a class officer and a members of the steering committee. In addition Erin has earned a varsity letter for four years as a member of the Lady Eagles basketball team.
Adam L. McCoy is the son of Mike and Cathy McCoy of Burnsville. Adam has been an active member of the Forensic/Debate Team, Academic Bowl team, National Honor Society, Student Council and the Eagle Band. He plans to pursue a degree in law from West Virginia University.
Stephanie Tyo is the daughter of Stephen and Rene’ Tyo of Frametown. Her extra curricular activities include theater, marching, jazz and concert band, 4-H and karate. Stephanie plans to attend WVU before pursuing a physicians assistant degree at Alderson-Broaddus College.
Lauren Westfall is the daughter of John and Patricia Westfall of Glenville. At BCHS Lauren has been active as a varsity member of the cross country, basketball and volleyball teams. She also was a member of the National Honor Society, yearbook and school newspaper staffs. Lauren plans to attend WVU, major in biology and go on to dental school.
Daniel Fridley will be the 2002 Salutatorian. He is the son of Kimberly Canfield of Sutton and Kerry Fridley of Sissonville. Daniel has been a participant in the Envirothon, played basketball, worked with the school newspaper and been active in his church youth group. He has enrolled at WVU where he will major in engineering.
Holly Gayle Connor holds down the number nine position in this year’s graduating class. She is the daughter of Benjamin and Catherine Connor of Sutton. At BCHS, Holly served as yearbook editor, played varsity basketball and volleyball, served on the National Honor Society, Steering Committee and Who’s Who. Holly will attend Marshall University and major in either journalism or psychology.
Rounding out the top ten graduates is Leah Heater, daughter of Marra Goff and David Heater both of Sutton. Leah’s extra curricular activities include the BCHS Chorus, Eagle Theater, National Honor Society and Thespians Society. She plans to pursue vocal studies at West Virginia Wesleyan.
