Forest City Regional High School Class of 2006 graduation to take place on Friday
This year marks the 108th annual commencement of Forest City Regional High School. Graduation will be held on Friday, June 9, in the high school auditorium. Diplomas will be awarded by Forest City Regional School Board Vice-President Henry Nebzydoski, VMD.
The valedictorian from the Class of 2006 is Laura Heck, and the salutatorian is Tiffany Butler. The principal address will be delivered by a Forest City teacher, Stephen Fonash.
Awards will be presented by Mr. Anthony Rusnak, Principal of Forest City Regional High School.

Laura Heck, Tiffany Butler named Valedictorian and Salutatorian at FCR
Forest City Regional School District has announced the valedictorian and salutatorian of the Class of 2006.
Valedictorian
Laura Heck has been named valedictorian at Forest City Regional.
Laura resides in Forest City and is the daughter of Michael and Richelle Heck.
Laura has maintained a Distinguished Honor Roll status and is ranked first in her class of 63. She received the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute medal award; the University of Rochester Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award; a math award from John Hopkins Search for Talented Youth in 2001 and 2002; the Rotary Club scholastic achievement award; the Times Tribune Scholastic Superstar; the NEIU scholar of the year; the Greater Scranton Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association Scholarship; and the Anthracite Golf Association Vince Scarpetta scholarship.
She was a member of the scholastic team; attended the Safe Driving competition in junior year; a member of the Math Counts team; runner-up in the American Legion 8th grade girls awards; attended the Marywood Math Competition in 10th and 11th grade, and she received a certificate for the overall highest score in the school both years.
She was a member of National Honor Society since sophomore year; the gifted program; Student Council since 7th grade; Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science since 7th grade, and she placed in all six regional and all six state competitions she attended. She was a member of the golf team, earning a letter her sophomore through senior years. She won the Wayne County Commissioners' Cup Outstanding female athlete in 2003 and 2005; the Anthracite Golf Association for Tournament of Champion Girls Division in 2003; made district competition three years; captain her senior year and received the coach's award her senior year.
She was a member of the basketball team, earning a letter her sophomore through senior years; was the Honesdale Jaycees Tournament all star team member her junior year and captain her senior year, winning the coach's award senior year.
Laura was a member of the softball team, earning a letter her freshman through senior years, and was on the 1st team Northern League All-Star in freshman year and 2nd team on the Northern League All Star her junior year, and captain her senior year earning the coach's award her freshman year and was Co-MVP her senior year.
She was a member of the high school band and participated in the Marywood Honors Band in freshman year and in County Band since 7th grade; a member of the High School Chorus, Select Choir, and Show Choir, participating in County Chorus in 7th and 8th grade.
She wrote the "Forester Phantom," school newspaper in 7th grade and attended forensic science camp at the Florida Institute of Technology. She has participated in highway cleanup, Feed-A-Friend, the harvest festival, the Haunted Hallway, the Toys for Tots campaign and the Steamtown Marathon.
Laura was an assistant baton teacher for Lynnette's Twirlerettes since 1999, interned at the Lackawanna County Public Defender's Office and was an employee at the golf pro shop at Elkview.
She plans to attend Penn State (main campus) the Fall of 2006 as a Forensic Science major.
Salutatorian
Tiffany Butler has been named salutatorian at Forest City Regional. She is the daughter of Glenn and Jennifer Butler, Vandling.
She has maintained a Distinguished Honor Status and is ranked second in her class of 63. She attended Marywood Math Competition for three years; the Math Counts Team, placing third; attended Young Author's Day and Science-In-Action Day at Susquehanna University; the Penn State Scholar Program and was a Scholastic Team member. She was the regional winner of the Drive Safe state driving competition her senior year.
Tiffany was a member of National Honor Society since her sophomore year; the High School Band, participating in County Band since 7th grade; Marywood Honors band in her freshman year; and District Band in sophomore, junior, and senior years. She is also a member of Student Council since 8th grade; the Junior High and Varsity Cross Country teams in 7th-9th and participated in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science, attending the state competition three times. She participated in Dave Ragnacci's School of Dance for nine years, and demonstrates for younger classes.
She was a Girl Scout from kindergarten until 9th grade; a member of Ski Club for 5 years; scorekeeper for junior high, junior varsity and varsity girls basketball team and scorekeeper for the varsity girls softball team.
Tiffany has also participated in highway cleanups, Haunted Hallways, Feed-A-Friend, and the Toys for Tots campaign and volunteered at the Steamtown Marathon since 7th grade.
She participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life for two years, and organized a Relay team and raised more than $3,000 for the American Cancer Society. She was employed at Furdock's Bagel Post from December 2003 to March 2006, and at Comprehensive Physical Therapy Fitness Center in 2005.
She earned a letter her senior year for basketball and softball her senior year.
She plans to attend the University of Scranton in the Fall of 2006 and major in pre-veterinary medicine.
