Thirty-seven PMHS Students Join Honor Society
"This represents the highest achievement of Pelham Memorial High School," said School Board President Dr. Terrence Martell at the induction ceremony of thirty-seven PMHS students into the Knight and Lamp Chapter of the National Honor Society.
As part of the ceremony, the four officers lit candles and spoke of the four prerequisites for selection. Senior president Brian Leavey spoke about scholarship, senior vice president Kelly Benabou about service, junior president Lauren Carfora about character and junior vice president Michael Cannella about leadership.
Keynote speaker was Matthew Boyle, PMHS class of 1993, graduate of Prince-ton University and currently a writer and reporter for Fortune Magazine. Tracing the questions asked from high school through college, on the job and in life, Mr. Boyle said, "There are four cornerstones of membership in the National Honor Society: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Char-acter. If I might be so bold, I'd like to suggest an additional one tonight: Curiosity. The more we inquire, the richer we can become in those first four qualities."
New members for the class of 2003 are Charlotte Johnson, Vanessa Myers and Joshua Sarver. From the class of 2004, the new members are Alessandra Biaggi, Alejandra Bracero, Julia Broder, Michael Cannella, Lauren Carfora, Ariane Chang, Zachary Chestnut, Elizabeth Clain, Michael Culen, Ales Cvekl, James Dela Peña, Ian Folkert, Frank Fraioli, Meighan Gallagher, Grace Gerald, Colin Gilland, Bren-dan Gray, Christine Greco, Emily Greenhouse, Megan Guerrieri, Danielle Hayman, Benjamin Horowitz, Meagan Irwin, Meredith Keyser, Roxanna Kobziar, Daniel Mazzella, Amanda Palmieri, Peter Ragaglia, Kirthana Raman, Robert Ramenofsky, Gary Ritacco, Meredith Swain, Zachary Thomas and Micol Zweig.
