Three Lamar State College-Orange students graduated summa cum laude at commencement ceremonies Friday, Aug. 12.
Summa cum laude, or with "highest honors," includes those students with grade point averages of 3.8 to 4.0.
The three included
Patricia Ann Flowers Sanders, Kirbyville, 3.86;
Michael Shawn Thornton, Orange, 3.82; and
Kristen Leanne Ellis Blackwell, Orange, 3.81.
All three received certificates of completion in vocational nursing.
Five students graduated cum laude, or with "honors" designation, with GPAs of 3.50 to 3.64.
They included:
David Garrett Jones, Vidor, 3.64, associate of science degree in liberal arts;
Patricia Lynn Sasser Greer, Orange, 3.58;
Catherine Michelle Johnnie, Orange, 3.58;
Brandy Lynn Plunkett, Orange, 3.57; and
Ticia D. Garrett, Beaumont, 3.55, certificates of completion in vocational nursing.
Associate of science and associate of applied science degrees and certificates of completion went to 80 Texas and Louisiana graduates.
The Honorable Michael Shuff, judge of Orange County Court-at-Law No. 1, was the guest speaker.
